What makes CoreScreening different from other background check providers?
CoreScreening was founded eight years ago after our founder spent 10 years as a senior executive with large national background screening companies. We created CoreScreening with a different service model in mind: experienced, responsive service combined with screening programs designed around the populations our clients are working to protect.
Youth protection is one of our primary specialties. We work with Catholic dioceses, higher education institutions, nonprofits, and volunteer-based organizations nationwide, many of which manage large populations of employees and volunteers who work with children and vulnerable individuals.
Rather than operating in a high-volume call-center environment, our clients have direct access to a dedicated team that understands their organization, screening program, and requirements.

How do you ensure compliance with the FCRA and state laws?
Compliance is built into our screening process. We utilize guidance and compliance resources from legal professionals who specialize in the background screening industry and regularly update our systems, forms, reporting rules, and internal procedures to reflect changes in federal and state requirements.
When potentially reportable criminal information is identified, the record is reviewed by an FCRA-certified team member to determine whether it can be reported under applicable federal and state requirements before it is included in the final report.
What is your average turnaround time from application submission to upload into VIRTUS?
Our VIRTUS integration provides flexibility in how the screening process is initiated. Depending on your preferred workflow, you can utilize both systems or have the background check automatically initiated at a designated point within the VIRTUS process.
Turnaround time depends primarily on the searches included in your screening package. Some searches can return almost instantly, while county criminal searches currently average approximately two business days overall.
Our internal processing time is another important distinction. We intentionally staff our processing team so orders are handled promptly. Applications submitted in the morning are generally processed the same business day, while applications submitted later in the day are typically processed by the following business day. Court closures, jurisdictional delays, or other circumstances outside our control can affect final completion times.
What percentage of reports require manual review?
The percentage varies depending on the searches included in the screening package.
For example, county criminal searches returned as clear can generally be completed without manual review. When potentially reportable criminal information is identified, an FCRA-certified team member reviews the record before it is included in the final report.
This additional review helps ensure that criminal information is reported in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.
How accurate and current are your criminal record sources?
For county criminal searches, we obtain information directly from the county court or an authorized court source.
This means the search reflects the most current information available from that jurisdiction at the time the search is conducted rather than simply re-reporting previously stored county criminal data.
A national criminal database search works differently because it aggregates records from numerous sources. When potentially reportable criminal information is identified through a national database, we verify the information with the appropriate source before reporting it.
This verification step is important for both accuracy and FCRA compliance.
Do you offer international background screening?
Yes. CoreScreening offers international background screening services. Availability, requirements, and turnaround times vary by country and search type.
Do you offer continuous criminal monitoring? Is there an additional cost?
Yes. We offer continuous criminal monitoring for an additional cost.
Our approach prioritizes current source information rather than relying solely on previously purchased or stored criminal-record datasets. Because updated information must be accessed on an ongoing basis, costs vary depending on the monitoring method, frequency, and population being monitored.

What experience does CoreScreening have with organizations serving children and vulnerable adults?
This is one of CoreScreening's strongest areas of experience.
Approximately 90% of our client base consists of organizations that work with or serve children. We work with Catholic dioceses, colleges and universities, nonprofits, and large volunteer-based organizations nationwide.
We understand that screening a large volunteer population can be very different from traditional employment screening.
Programs must balance several considerations, including:
- Protection of children and vulnerable populations
- Appropriate screening scope
- FCRA and state compliance
- Volunteer and applicant experience
- Administrative workload
- Turnaround time
- Cost
Our team can help structure a screening program around those priorities rather than simply applying a traditional employment-screening model to a volunteer population.
We currently do not collect Social Security numbers for criminal background checks. Can CoreScreening accommodate this?
Yes. We can customize the application so an SSN is not collected when the searches selected do not require one.
The primary consideration is the scope of criminal history you want to search.
For example, if you want to conduct a comprehensive seven-year county criminal history search based on an applicant's address history, an SSN trace can help identify prior addresses and jurisdictions associated with the applicant so the appropriate counties can be searched.
If your program is limited to searches such as the applicant's current county of residence and a national criminal database search, collecting an SSN may not be necessary.
We can review your existing screening package and determine whether removing the SSN would change the scope or completeness of your searches.
What do you recommend regarding the collection of Social Security numbers, considering security concerns and applicant hesitancy?
Our general approach is to collect an SSN when it serves a specific screening purpose—for example, establishing address history for a more comprehensive criminal search or conducting a search that requires an SSN.
If the selected screening package does not require it, avoiding unnecessary collection of sensitive personal information can simplify the applicant experience and reduce the amount of sensitive data being collected and maintained.
The key is determining whether eliminating the SSN would reduce the completeness of the organization's criminal history search. We can evaluate the current screening program and explain the tradeoffs before any changes are made.
How do applicants dispute inaccurate information?
Applicants who believe information in their background report is inaccurate or incomplete can submit a reinvestigation request directly to CoreScreening.

What are all of the costs, including pass-through fees and add-ons?
Pricing depends on the specific searches included in the screening package and any applicable court, state, verification, or third-party access fees.
For an organization evaluating providers, we recommend conducting an apples-to-apples comparison based on the searches your current provider is actually performing rather than comparing package names alone.
This is particularly important with criminal screening. Two packages can have similar names and prices while searching very different sources, jurisdictions, or periods of history.
